Still
lifes
Still lifes occupied a key position in the painter's work. They cannot, however,
be compared with the conventional tradition of the natura morta, such as the
breakfast or hunt pieces. Besides fruit, such as apples, oranges, lemons and
objects such as bowls and glasses, there are dead animals: jays, fish, crows
and guinea-fowl. But matter does not "die" - it is transformed. This is the
central secret of Boeckl's entire work. The horror of death is transfigured
and surmounted.
