Large Sicilian landscape
1924, 77 x 108 cm, oil on canvas,
Museum Leopold/Vienna

Boeckl is not concerned with creating the illusion
of a beautiful landscape, but with developing an independent structure. The colours are without contrast, giving a diffuse, neutral light. There is
no attempt to create atmosphere. Although the landscape is bathed in sunlight, there is hardly a shadow to be seen. This gives a compact, static effect.
